Andersen's inspiration for Kayoni came from a desire to create a modular system that differed from conventional thinking. The aim was to inspire and stimulate creativity, develop skills and logic through play, and promote social interaction. The result is a construction set that caters to various age groups, from toddlers to school-aged children.
What sets Kayoni apart from other construction sets is its visionary application of technology and precision tools. The blocks, made of high-grade EVA rubber, can be assembled vertically, horizontally, or at an angle, offering endless possibilities for creative play. The design challenges traditional construction set concepts and pushes boundaries, stimulating creativity, learning, and logic.
The blocks are shaped using precision laser and water jet cutting, based on a 50 x 50 x 50 mm cube modulo. The dimensional tolerance of 1mm allows for multiple orientation assembly of blocks. Quality controls and lab testing ensure the absence of prohibited Phthalates, in compliance with children's toy regulations.
Kayoni comes in various forms, sizes, and colors, with interconnecting pins and pockets that allow assembly in multiple orientations. Sets range from 8 to 72 blocks, with illustrated assemblies included. The design encourages learning, skill-building, and social interaction, making it suitable for children and parents alike, whether at home or in kindergarten.
The Kayoni project began in Copenhagen, Denmark, at the end of 2016 and was first exhibited at the KL Children and Youth Congress in Aalborg, Denmark, in January 2019. It was commercially introduced to the market in October 2019. The design process involved extensive research and testing, including focus groups and user acceptance testing, to create a toy series that inspires creativity and learning.
In conclusion, Kayoni is more than just a toy; it's a tool for learning and creativity. It's a testament to Andersen's innovative thinking and dedication to creating a product that not only entertains but also educates and inspires. With its Golden A' Design Award, Kayoni is set to make a significant impact in the world of children's toys.
